The two-storey house is part of a complex of buildings west of Alexandroupolis. The new design proposal, which was implemented within 2 months, did not modify its internal structural layout, but upgraded aesthetically and functionally the areas where interventions were made mainly to serve the needs of the family of four to which it belongs The main design goal was to create a modernized home with the owners’ personal imprint. Because of this the space is transformed into a canvas with different and vigorous dominant elements, such as the modern design translation of the bathroom as a hammam relaxation area, the morphologically dominant sofa, the intense contrasts of blue and yellow and the Mediterranean retro tile element. Apparently disparate each other, these elements coexist in the home combined with simple and clean forms, with a new minimal design kitchen, with a remodeled morphological fire place lined with durable materials but also aesthetically harmonized with all the other elements, with new furnishings with colors and materials in a harmony with the space and mainly with the use of gray and wood. Functionally, the reorganization of the kitchen has the effect of additional storage space and expand the useful kitchen space and the living room. Due to this need the kitchen island and the extension of the kitchen resulted in the use of extra space. The main purpose is to feel the expansive space without making any structural intervention on the ground floor outline. This has been achieved by removing “volumes” and using light colors on the light reflecting structural surfaces and giving them a larger scale feel. Due to the limited space and inadequate natural lighting, the logic of the fully open space was maintained and nonetheless a dining area was provided.
