The space was created with the aim of introducing children and teenagers to the world of science through workshops and experiential learning, utilizing the creative process of the STEAM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Art/Mathematics) educational approach.
Its design was based on the idea of combining an old-fashioned science laboratory with a modern classroom. For this reason, these activities were integrated into a shared space. Inside, a color contrast was chosen, with the dominant tones reflecting an old classroom. Vibrant colors were added to decorative elements and curtains, creating a theatrical atmosphere.
The facade, which faces a busy city street, consists of semi-transparent elements, such as perforated metal panels and semi-transparent glass partitions These ensure the inward focus and privacy of the classroom without restricting the mutual diffusion of light. At the same time, opaque elements, such as the velvet curtain, allow complete darkening of the space facilitating the use of a projector for teaching purposes.
The oversized microscope images on the glass partitions of the metal structure of the showcase, the anatomical model as the central element of the display and the large steampunk-style entrance door define the relationship between content and form. These elements highlight the design intention to reveal a retro-futuristic laboratory.
